Facts about Canada

Active Programme

Canada is one of the few countries in the world today with an active programme offering permanent residency immigration. In fact, it accepts more immigrants in proportion to its population than any other country in the world. Canada remains, geographically, the second largest country in the world with a staggering 150,000 miles of coast line. Currently planned immigration intake stands at about 250,000 persons pa.

Immigration & Economic Growth

Canada considers immigration necessary for economic growth, and welcomes new Canadians on the basis of their qualifications/experience or business skills and what they can do for Canada. Moreover, as couples are having less children than 30 years ago, there is a decline in young people and a growth in the older population. Immigration is thus making an important contribution to the economy of a country, by helping to off-set the developing imbalance of the two main age groups.

Country quotas

Unlike the USA, Canada does not have country-by-country quotas, so they will accept any number of people who meet the Canadian government's selection standards and criteria.

Permanent Residency

A permanent resident has all the same rights as a Canadian citizen, having access to medical care, education, unemployment insurance and pension benefits. The only thing that a permanent resident is unable to do is to vote in federal, provincial or city elections. Most people with the new immigration card and/or a permanent residency visa attached to the inside of their passports find access to the USA a relatively simple procedure. Provided that residents do not leave the country with no intention of returning or engaging in any criminal activity, the PR Visa allows them to live and work in Canada for the rest of your lives.

Citizenship

Once a person has been granted a permanent residency visa and been resident in Canada for at least three years from the date of landing or arrival, they are then eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship and to obtain a Canadian passport. Many new Canadian citizens will experience and enjoy greater freedom than previously in travelling around the world. Taking-up Canadian citizenship, does not mean that you have to forfeit your original citizenship or the related passport unless your country of origin demands this.
