Processing Times

LODGEMENT RULES CHANGED

The processing times for Canadian immigration varies considerably from one processing station to another. In the past, if the station that was normally responsible for applications from applicant's country had unacceptably long processing periods, then with agreement we could lodge their case at a Canadian immigration station located in another country that offered more favourable processing times. Although this facility has now been withdrawn with applicants now being required to be lodged in their country of residence or host country, however, in certain family class and refugee situations lodgement can occur within Canada.

When the publication of the proposed new immigration regulations were released in December 2001, it appeared that the immigration processing times of many Canadian immigration stations abroad would be begin to shorten. When the new rules were formally inacted on 28th June 2002, the processing began to extend and in some cases very considerably. In fact, stations such as Beijing and New Delhi are being quoted as taking up to 7 to 8 years to process a normal immigration application, whilst other SE Asian locations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila are not fairing much better. Unfortunately, these processing locations are no longer the exception rather than the rule, as even London which used to have a relatively fast processing time of above one year is currently quoting upto 42 months for an interview notification date, bringing UK total processing times to over 4 years in many cases.

INTERVIEW WAIVERS SAVE PROCESSING TIME

As you can appreciate most of the processing time is taken with waiting for the interview. Apart from having a work visa or PNP approval the only way that an immigration application processing time can be reduced is by achieving the granting of an interview waiver. We are pleased to say a large majority of our client/applicants over the years have been fortunate to be granted interview waivers. PNP APPLICANTS SHORTEN IMMIGRATION PROCESSING TIMES

Please also contact us for information regarding the current processing times of your local Canadian immigration station. The processing times for most provincial nominee programme (PNP) applicants are considerably shorter than those for most federal category applications, and in most cases can save literally years of waiting time. Moreover, when the BC provincial immigration department approve an application, they will also approve the issuance of a work permit which allows applicants to be working in Canada whilst their permanent residency applications are being processed.
